ABOUT

EDUCATING & INSPIRING
SINCE 1961

SJNS is a self-supporting, non-profit program for 2 through 5 year old children, located on the campus of  The Episcopal Church of St. John on the Mountain (SJOTM). The SJNS curriculum, while not religious in nature, includes certain aspects of religious life, such as a blessing before snacks and observance of various religious holidays. We welcome all students and their families to share their faith with the school regardless of religious affiliation. We foster the development of the “whole child” through social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth.

“We’ve learned so much this year without even knowing we were learning!”

OUTDOOR TIME

Children participate in gross motor activities daily for a minimum of thirty minutes. Weather permitting, children enjoy exploring the nursery school playground or using riding toys outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, children play in the spacious Parish Hall and enjoy riding scooters, playing ball, building with imagination blocks, and playing parachute games.

PARENT INVOLVEMENT

We encourage parents to visit anytime during our hours of operation. We have various opportunities for parents to participate in classroom activities such as: Mystery Reader, Library Day, pizza lunch, holiday and birthday parties, and end of study celebrations. We believe that cooperation between school and home, strong parent-teacher partnerships, and parent engagement promote positive school outcomes for our children.

THE SJNS DIFFERENCE

St. John’s Nursery School is a true community. The staff, children, and parents engage in warm and caring relationships that foster feelings of security. SJNS is a small school that allows for students to interact with children in other classes. We offer whole school activities, such as the Halloween Parade, Valentine's Dance and Family Night. Within this community, the children are exposed to a tumbling class once a week, various field trips throughout the year, as well as visitors to the school (police, fireman, dentist, etc.). Our goal is for children to LOVE school.
